The Marquee event at this year's Eddy Rando is the Steel Bicycle Concours d'Elegance. We'll have 11 different categories to choose from, so bring out your best ferrous steed and see how it stacks up against the competition:
Best Eddy Merckx
After all, it's the Eddy Rando, and the coolest Merckx in attendance deserves some kudos!
Best American Bike
Awarded to the best bike with an American-built steel frame.
Modern Iron and Neo-Retro
Open to any modern steel bike, resto-mods, neo-retros, and Frankenbikes welcome! What is modern? We’ll leave that up to you! All that is required is that the frame is steel!
Future Classics
Grunge music was born, flannel was the shirt of choice, and Chiapucci, Bugno, and Indurain dominated cycling. For this era, think STI vs Ergopower, the birth of dual-pivot brakes, etc.
LeMond vs Fignon
If you know bike racing, you know the story. But this era was when cycling started moving towards modernism, and things started getting wacky. Think C-Record, Delta brakes, early clipless pedals, Mavic Starfish cranks, non-aero brake cables, Dura Ace 7400, etc.
Beware of The Badger
Bernard Hinault, The Badger, ruled his era of cycling with an iron fist and old-school French philosophies. For this category, think of the quintessential 1980s racing bike: Super Record, Simplex Retrofriction shifters, 6-speed freewheels, Turbo saddles, anodized rims, etc.
The Cannibal is King
Merckx was The Cannibal. He was the best there ever was, and these bikes defined his era. Think Nuovo Record, Cinelli Unicanitor, 5-speed freewheels, top tube cable clamps, etc.
Anquetil and Earlier
Jaques Anquetil was the picture of elegance, as were the bikes of his era (50s and 60s). For this category, think of classic design and timeless elegance. This category is also open to any bike that pre-dates this period.
Queen Connie
Connie Carpenter-Phinney is the original badass woman cyclist. The first ever Women's Olympic Cycling Champion who calls Colorado home. This award is named in her honor for the best non-bro ridden bike at the Eddy Rando.
People's Choice
The people will vote, and the most votes will win!
Best in Show
The ultimate Eddy Rando award for the best bike at the event.
All competing bikes must be setup in the concours area before noon because judging starts at 12pm (bring your own bike stand). We recommend providing a one page summary/explanation of your bike's details, provenance, significance, etc. (to be displayed with your rig), to better help the judges make their evaluations.
